Deb Smith was appointed as Assistant Chief Constable in March 2020.
She joined the force in 1999 and has carried out several different roles, in both Uniform and Detective roles.
She is an accredited Strategic Firearms Commander, Senior Investigating Officer, Senior Identification Manager, Public Order Gold Commander and Multi Agency Gold Incident Commander.
In May 2015 she was seconded to Operation Hydrant, a national investigation into non-recent child sexual abuse in institutional settings. She took up the role of Deputy National Coordinator and lead the operational co-ordination of the investigation.
She returned to Wiltshire in December 2016, where she took on the role of Head of Crime before becoming Head of Public Protection prior to her promotion to Assistant Chief Constable.
Deb was the Local Policing and Specialist operations Assistant Chief Constable until June 2022 when she then took over the Crime, Justice and Vulnerability Assistant Chief Constable role.
Deb is the national NPCC (National Police Chiefs Council) lead for Employer Supported Policing within the Citizens in Policing Portfolio.
