Wiltshire Police officers have arrested a man in connection with a suspected arson incident in Pewsey.
At approximately 2am yesterday (18/6) officers attended Rawlins Road in Pewsey in support of colleagues from Dorset and Wiltshire Fire and Rescue Service following reports that several vehicles had been set on fire. (18/06)
Nearby addresses were evacuated while the blaze was extinguished and thankfully there were no reported injuries.
Fire investigators are currently working to establish the cause of the blaze in which a total of five vehicles were destroyed and two were partially damaged.
Officers have now arrested a man in his 40s from Southampton on suspicion of arson, as well as drink and drug driving, and possession of class A and B drugs. He is currently in custody in Melksham for questioning
Inspector Simon Garrett said: ”This wss a concerning incident which resulted in some large scale damage to vehicles parked in the road. Thankfully there were no related injuries.
“I am pleased that officers have swiftly made an arrest through some good proactive policing and a man is currently in custody.
“We would still like to hear from anyone who was in the area in the early hours of yesterday morning and may have seen any suspicious activity. We would also like to hear from anyone who may have CCTV or dashcam footage that could help with ongoing enquiries.”
