Celebrating Volunteers’ Week – A Milestone for Wiltshire Specials

As part of last week’s Volunteers’ Week, we are proud to recognise the dedication, professionalism and impact of our Special Constables across Wiltshire Police.

We are particularly celebrating an outstanding achievement within the Specials Road Safety Team. Five officers have successfully completed an intensive four-day training course to become accredited Scene Managers, which is a significant milestone not only for them personally, but for the organisation as a whole.

For the first time in Wiltshire Police history, Special Constables within the Roads Safety Team are now trained and equipped to manage the scenes of the most serious and complex collisions across the county. This development represents a major step forward in enhancing our operational resilience and demonstrates the increasing depth of capability within our volunteer workforce.

The addition of Special Constable Scene Managers strengthens the Roads Policing Team’s ability to respond effectively to critical incidents, ensuring scenes are managed professionally, efficiently and with the utmost care for those affected.

This achievement highlights the exceptional commitment our volunteers bring; giving up their time to develop advanced skills that directly support frontline policing and improve public safety.

Deputy Specials Chief Officer Ben Williamson said: “I could not be prouder of the dedication shown by these five Special Constables and the wider organisation that has supported their development. This is a truly significant moment for Wiltshire Police.

"Our Special Constables continue to demonstrate that they are not only committed volunteers, but highly capable officers who bring real value to operational policing. By investing in their skills and providing opportunities such as Scene Manager training, we are strengthening our ability to serve our communities and respond to serious incidents with professionalism and expertise.

"This is a fantastic example of what can be achieved when we support and empower our volunteers.”

As we mark the end of Volunteers’ Week, moments like this remind us of the extraordinary contribution made by our Special Constabulary. Their dedication, professionalism and willingness to go above and beyond embody the very best of policing.

Thank you to all our volunteers for the invaluable role you play in keeping Wiltshire safe.
