120 drivers arrested for drink or drug driving offences in Wiltshire during December

Wiltshire Police’s Roads Policing Unit (RPU) led the Force’s response to the national NPCC Operation Limit campaign, to target drink and drug driving up and down the county. From 1 – 31 December 2025, RPU carried out additional patrols of Wiltshire’s road networks to actively search for drink and drug driving offenders and remove them from the roads.

Over the month, 120 people were arrested for drink or drug driving related offences. This is a 35% increase on drink or drug driving related arrests, compared to December 2024.

Of those arrested, 40.8% were arrested on suspicion of drug driving related offences and 59.2% were arrested on suspicion of drink driving related offences.

Inspector Neil Duffin heads up the Roads Policing Unit at Wiltshire Police.

Inspector Duffin said: “During Operation Limit, our officers were out in force, carrying out targeted patrols to make Wiltshire’s roads safer. While a rise in the numbers of drivers found to be drink or drug driving may seem concerning, I want to reassure the public that we will take a robust approach. The arrest of these 120 individuals shows our resolve in preventing serious collisions and reducing road deaths.”

Inspector Duffin continues: "Where individuals choose to drive under the influence of drink or drugs, the law is clear. Our officers are better equipped than ever to detect drug drivers, which is reflected in the significant number of drug-related arrests we made this month. We will continue to apply this pressure year-round."
