A man has been disqualified from driving for three years after he caused serious injury to another driver in a collision near Malmesbury.
Shehryar Hussain, 24, of Chasewater Crescent, Broughton, Milton Keynes, was driving a BMW i4 on the B4042 eastbound out of Malmesbury shortly after 1pm on August 9, 2023, when he was witnessed driving at speed before overtaking a number of vehicles and then colliding with a vehicle travelling in the opposite direction.
The driver of this vehicle – a woman in her 40s from Gloucestershire – sustained serious hand injuries as a result of the collision.
Hussain pleaded guilty to causing serious injury by dangerous driving and was sentenced at Swindon Crown Court on February 16.
As well as the driving ban, Hussain was given a 20 month prison sentence suspended for two years, ordered to complete 150 hours of unpaid work and pay a surcharge of £187.
PC Luke Hobbs of the Roads Policing Unit said: “Hussain was driving a car which was due to be delivered to a company as part of his employment – he had never driven the car before and was unfamiliar with the stretch of road where he caused this collision.
"His driving fell well below the standard expected of a competent driver and he is lucky that nobody was killed as a result of his actions.”
