Preventing and Detecting Shoplifting by Repeat Offenders
Action taken:
Identify and target known repeat shoplifters responsible for the greatest level of harm within the community.
Conduct proactive patrols in retail areas and known hotspot locations.
Work closely with businesses to gather evidence, share intelligence and identify offenders at the earliest opportunity.
Use local intelligence and crime trends to support enforcement activity and crime prevention initiatives.
Pursue positive outcomes against offenders, including arrests, charges, community resolutions and criminal behaviour orders where appropriate.
Support retailers in adopting crime prevention measures and encourage prompt reporting of offences.
Work with partner agencies to address underlying causes of offending, including substance misuse and vulnerability where appropriate.
