A Passion for Protecting People: Bill Kingsmill's 20-Year Policing Journey

A volunteer police officer whose dedication to keeping Wiltshire safe has spanned two decades has been recognised with a Long Service Award.

Special Constable Bill Kingsmill received the award at the recent Wiltshire Police Force Awards, recognising 20 years of voluntary service and commitment to policing.

Special Constables are volunteer police officers who hold the same powers as regular officers and play a vital role in protecting communities, supporting victims, investigating crime and assisting with incidents across the county.

Since joining Wiltshire Police in November 2005, Bill has made a significant contribution across a range of policing roles. He began his service with the Melksham Neighbourhood Policing Team before moving into Roads Policing in Chippenham, supporting response policing in Devizes, contributing to Tri-Force Operations and, more recently, serving with the Special Roads Safety Unit alongside the Roads Policing Unit.

Throughout his career, Bill has embraced the varied opportunities policing offers while maintaining a strong focus on public safety, particularly on Wiltshire's roads.

Among the highlights of his service has been supporting Wiltshire Police at the Royal International Air Tattoo, combining operational policing duties with his passion for aviation.

Reflecting on his 20 years of service, Bill said he was proud to have been able to support Wiltshire Police and local communities in a variety of roles.

Bill would like to thank his colleagues across the Roads Policing Team for their support throughout his policing journey and extends his heartfelt appreciation to his wife for her continued encouragement over the years.

Bill's achievement highlights the invaluable contribution made by Special Constables, who volunteer thousands of hours each year to help keep Wiltshire one of the safest places to live and work.
