Multi-Agency Public Protection Arrangements (MAPPA) – Wiltshire

Appointment of MAPPA Lay Advisers

Voluntary position (unpaid), part-time for up to 3 years

• Do you live in Wiltshire and have an interest in public protection and community safety?
• Can you spare up to 8 hours a month (within working hours) to act as a ‘critical friend’ to Wiltshire MAPPA Strategic Management Board (SMB)?
• Do you have the confidence and skills to constructively challenge a range of professionals as they go about their business of managing violent and sexual offenders?

We are looking to recruit a Lay Adviser to Wiltshire MAPPA SMB to provide us with the perspective of ordinary members of the public. Successful applicants will operate as full members of the SMB, attending each of the quarterly board meetings and helping to develop, monitor and evaluate MAPPA in Wiltshire. They will also act as independent observers at risk management meetings for individual offenders.  

Lay Advisers need to be independent of the organisations involved in MAPPA, otherwise it may be difficult for them to challenge the thinking of professionals in the criminal justice and duty to cooperate agencies.
