During the pandemic in 2020 we began to build our new IT Department, fast forward two years and we have a great team established and we have come leaps and bounds in bringing our services back in house.
We have been working in a Covid safe environment over the last two years, keeping front line policing operational. The working environment during Covid lock downs was certainly a surreal journey. We are now back in the office and working face to face with our customers and other key stakeholders.
The first phase of the journey has allowed us to look at our set up, processes and skills and is helping to shape the next phase. We have identified areas that we want to enhance, both in terms of technology and resources. So we are now excited to be recruiting into a number of new roles.
Our department covers both staff and officers in Wiltshire Police and we also provide an IT service to The Office of the Police and Crime Commissioner.
We want our customers, our staff and officers, to have a positive and welcoming interaction with our IT Department, and we are building on that culture. Our customers have the opportunity to access help via the newly built “Hub” which will is a friendly and open service desk and field room with great facilities and great staff.
From the moment, an officer comes on duty, they rely on our IT systems in many ways, from logging onto to check emails, work on our crime recording system, looking at crime logs, logging into a Bodyworn video camera, booking on to our radio network, to use of the latest technology on their smart phones, the list is endless. The whole process from start to finish within policing relies on technology. If one small part of it goes down it can have a dramatic knock-on effect.
We are looking for several positions, ranging from Field Engineers, it Security Officer, Telephony Engineer, Stock and Asset Controller, Tech Ops Engineers (including a senior role) and Technical Architects. Some roles will require people to go “on call” on a rota but these will be paid an additional “standby allowance”. Full details will be in the job advert.
We are also interested in candidates if you are relatively new to IT and want to get a foot on the ladder. With the introduction of “Progression Roles” we are offering an opportunity to join us, receive a salary commensurate with your skills and experience but with the opportunity to progress at pace with structured hands-on support, mentoring, learning and industry recognised qualifications. Contact our recruitment team for more information.
Agile working is encouraged, and we encourage anyone who is interested in this field to apply. We want new ideas, experience, and want to listen to your thinking.
Wiltshire Police is a force with a proud heritage. Why not come and join our “family” and be part of this exciting journey.
