Above image says "PC Philip Johnson, one of our first PC graduate apprentices, on track to graduate in July 2023: the apprenticeship has broadened my knowledge of theoretical policing concepts and improved my understanding of the factors that contribute to crime. It includes images of PC Philip Johson, the phrase I love Apprenticeships and the hashtag #NAW2023
How is the apprenticeship going?
The course has gone well. I have been achieving good grades and I am on track to graduate in July 2023.
How are you balancing work/study time?
I have found balancing the work/study/home life stressful. Working a full time 24/7 shift pattern, while studying on my days off, and being a good father/partner has been the biggest challenge of my life.
There are days designated for completing university work, however they are too few to be able to complete the university assignments
How will it help your career?
The apprenticeship has broadened my knowledge of theoretical policing concepts and improved my understanding of the factors that contribute to crime. I believe the apprenticeship will benefit those who aim to take on senior leadership positions within Wiltshire Police.
Being a police officer provides the opportunity to do things that you cannot do in any other job. It is a unique career with its own benefits and challenges
Any advice to anyone considering taking an apprenticeship?
The PCDA and DHEP course require 2-3 years of hard-work under ever changing conditions. My advice would be to apply if you truly want to be a police officer and are willing to work hard to achieve it.
