He was immediately drawn to the CID and has spent the majority of his career working as a detective. Ben was initially posted to Swindon, working as a response PC, before briefly the community beat officer for Pinehurst and then completing his initial CID attachment in in 2000.
Ben became a member of the Major Crime Unit in 2002 and was promoted to sergeant in 2004. He briefly worked in the Force Control Room before returning to the CID and working as a Detective Sergeant in Kennet and West Wiltshire.
Ben was promoted to Detective Inspector in 2008 and worked in the Force Intelligence Bureau, the Anti-Corruption Unit and led the Serious Organised Crime team before beginning the first of two periods as a Detective Inspector with the Public Protection Department.
Initially, he was the force tactical lead for tackling domestic abuse and helped launch both the Domestic Violence Disclosure Scheme (DVDS) and the use of Domestic Violence Protection Notices (DVPOs) in Wiltshire.
Ben was then seconded to Operation Hydrant (a national operation co-ordinating the response to non-recent child sexual abuse) where he worked closely with the Independent Inquiry into Child Sexual Abuse.
He returned to Wiltshire Police during 2017 and worked on Operation Conifer (the investigation into allegations made against Sir Edward Heath) before rejoining the Public Protection Unit as the tactical lead for tackling child exploitation.
Ben led the initial investigative response to the Salisbury poisonings in March 2018 before being promoted to Det Chief Inspector and seconded to the Regional Organised Crime Unit. He returned to Wiltshire as a Detective Superintendent at the start of 2020. Since that time, Ben has proudly led the Public Protection Department and works closely with both the Swindon and Wiltshire safeguarding executives.
Ben has two daughters and lives with his wife and step daughter just outside of Devizes. He is often to be found walking Bailey, the cocker spaniel, in and around the local area
