Clare Mills started her career in policing in 1999 in Northamptonshire, moving to Bedfordshire Police in 2003. She joined Wiltshire Police in 2007 and was promoted to Head of Department in 2012. Clare headed up a shared service team of communications professionals across the Office of the Police and Crime Commissioner and Wiltshire Police for nine years before moving, in May 2021, to become Head of Strategic Communications and Engagement for Wiltshire Police. Clare is responsible for the development of the internal, external and digital communications and engagement strategic approach and leads on Reward and Recognition for Wiltshire Police, on behalf of the Chief Constable.
Clare leads the communications for critical incidents, gold groups and other strategic issues and ensures that media, public relations, internal staff engagement and digital communications are managed and delivered effectively and efficiently.
Clare is a Vice Chair for the Association of Police Communicators (APComm), which represents all specialist police communicators working to support the police service.
