Wiltshire Police are proud to announce the launch of their first easy-read document, designed to support vulnerable individuals in understanding how to stay safe both at home and in public spaces.
This new resource is tailored to provide clear, accessible information using simple language and visual aids, ensuring everyone can benefit from vital safety advice.
The guide is the result of a collaborative effort between Chloe, a supported adult on Fairfield Steps programme in Dilton Marsh (near Westbury), Sam Thomas, Service Manager for Fairfield Pathways and Wiltshire Police’s Early Intervention Team.
The Fairfield Steps programme is designed to help young people with additional needs develop life skills, gain work experience, and grow their confidence, empowering them to thrive in the community and Chloe’s contributions were instrumental in shaping the document to meet the needs of the intended audience, while the Early Intervention team provided their expertise in community safety.
PC Darren Foulger from the Wiltshire Police Early Intervention Team, said: "Ensuring that everyone in our community has access to information that empowers them to stay safe is a key priority for Wiltshire Police. This easy-read guide represents a significant step forward in making safety advice accessible for all. We are incredibly grateful for the collaboration with Sam from Fairfield and the enthusiasm Chloe brought to this project, helping to turn an idea into a reality.”
The easy-read document will be available on the Wiltshire Police website and will be distributed through community partners, libraries, and police events across the county.
Chloe expressed her pride in being involved: "It feels great to know that my work will help others. I hope this guide makes a real difference for people who might need extra help with traditional safety information."
Sam Thomas, Service Manager of Fairfield Pathways added: “We are very passionate to support our young people and adults to live and work without barriers."
Wiltshire Police encourages community members and support organisations to share this resource widely. Together, we can ensure that everyone feels confident and informed about staying safe.
