Trowbridge Police have helped to secure a Criminal Behaviour Order, banning a persistent shoplifter from the shops he has been targeting.
Ian Gadd, 46, of Semington Road, Melksham, was sentenced to 40 weeks in prison at Swindon Magistrates Court yesterday (20/01) after being found guilty of three counts of attempted theft and two counts of theft.
Gadd was also given a CBO banning him from entering a number of shops in Melksham, Westbury, Trowbridge, Bradford on Avon and Devizes.
Sgt Charly Chilton said: "In the last six months we have secured CBOs for six shoplifting offenders. Retail crime remains a significant concern to our businesses across Wiltshire – particularly in relation to shoplifting.
"My Neighbourhood Policing Team are working closely with our retail communities as we know this type of crime has a huge affect on them, both financially and mentally.
"As well as high visibility patrols we're also carrying out plain clothed operations.
"I'd urge retailers to sign up to Shop Watch and Business Watch as these schemes are there to help support and protect you, and work alongside other businesses."
If anyone is caught breaking their CBO they can be sentenced for up to five years in prison.
