A man who dangerously fled from officers after failing to stop has been sentenced.
On October 25 last year, Toyun Preece, 22, of Brook Street, Warminster, was spotted by officers in Trowbridge driving a blue Vauxhall Corsa which he was uninsured to drive.
On Silver Street Lane, Preece was indicated to pull over by the officers but failed to do so, overtaking another vehicle.
A pursuit was authorised, during which Preece repeatedly weaved in and out of traffic well in excess of the speed limit, overtook vehicles and travelled the wrong way around roundabouts.
The pursuit culminated in a dead end in an unnamed road in Hawkeridge, where Preece stopped the vehicle and was arrested by officers.
In a hearing at Salisbury Magistrates’ Court on Thursday (16/01), he pleaded guilty to dangerous driving, driving without a licence and driving while uninsured.
He was sentenced to 12 months’ imprisonment, suspended for two years. He is also disqualified from driving for two years, required to pay a victim surcharge of £187 and court costs of £85.
PC Thomas Richardson of the Roads Policing Unit said: “Preece’s driving was incredibly reckless and dangerous and it is extremely fortunate that there were no serious collisions.
“Preece clearly had no regard for other members of the public and his dangerous driving repeatedly forced them to take evasive action.
“We will continue to clamp down on dangerous drivers and ensure they are put before the courts.”
