A man is in custody following excellent police work in Devizes this afternoon (12/10).
Shortly after noon, we received a report of an assault in Steele Close, Devizes, following a road rage incident in London Road.
Following swift enquiries, officers were able to locate and stop the suspect in his vehicle in New Park Street, Devizes, during which a police vehicle was rammed twice.
The suspect, a man in his 20s, made off on foot and officers were able to track and detain him. He was then arrested on suspicion of attempted grievous bodily harm, failing to stop for police and dangerous driving.
He has been taken into custody for questioning.
The victim of the assault, a man in his 20s, fortunately suffered no reported injuries.
County Inspector Gav Brewster said: “This was excellent teamwork by various units to locate and arrest the suspect.
“In the space of around 90 minutes, officers were able to locate the suspect in his vehicle and apprehend him, as well as secure the initial scene in Steele Close and attain CCTV footage of the incident.
“I appreciate this incident took place in central Devizes in the middle of the day with plenty of witnesses. If you have any concerns or anything you wish to talk about then please don’t hesitate to speak to one of our officers.”
