Man disqualified after drink driving at more than 100mph

A man has been disqualified from driving for more than three years after being caught driving at more than 100mph on the M4 while under the influence of alcohol.

At around 1.15am on May 28, officers in an unmarked vehicle joined the M4 at junction 15 for Swindon and witnessed Christopher Chitima, 31, of Broad Walk, Knowle, Bristol, speeding in the direction of Bristol.

Officers followed the vehicle, during which speeds of more than 100mph were recorded.

Chitima was stopped near to junction 16. He was subsequently breathalysed, blowing over the limit. He was arrested and taken to custody.

In a hearing last Wednesday, Chitima pleaded guilty to drink driving.

He was disqualified from driving for 40 months, fined £384 and required to pay a victim surcharge of £154 and court costs of £85.

PC Tom Webster of the Roads Policing Unit said: “These are incredibly dangerous and reckless speeds to be driving at on any occasion, let alone when you have been drinking.

“There is simply no excuse for Chitima’s actions and he now faces a lengthy spell off the roads.

“Our Roads Policing Unit will continue to target and clamp down on drink and drug drivers on our roads as we know it can and does lead to fatal collisions.”
