Drivers failing to wear seatbelts, using mobile phones whilst driving and using vehicles of a poor standard were amongst the 33 people stopped by officers in Chippenham.
Project Zero is a day of action held every week by our Roads Policing Unit and involves officers descending on a different town in the county targeting officers committing any of the fatal five offences.
These are:
- driving whilst using a mobile phone
- drink/drug driving
- driving at excess speed
- failing to wear a seatbelt
- careless driving.
This week, RPU were joined by Chief Constable Catherine Roper in the Chippenham area and surrounding villages.
A/Insp Will Ayres said: “Whilst some of these offences may seem very minor, the consequences of using a mobile phone whilst driving for example are potentially deadly to you, your passengers and other road users. It is crucial that we as drivers recognise the importance of treating our roads with care and the seriousness it deserves.
“This work is part of our every day commitment to keeping our roads as safe as possible and we will continue to target those who offend on Wiltshire’s roads.”
