Two teenage boys have been sentenced following a burglary in Devizes.
Around 3.20am on January 10, the teenagers broke into a home and took the keys of a vehicle without consent.
A 16-year-old boy, who can’t be named for legal reasons, pleaded guilty to burglary and was sentenced on Tuesday (06/02) at Swindon Youth Court to a Youth Referral Order for two years, an electronic tag for six months and a curfew for three months. He will also have supervision for two years and has been ordered to pay £450 to his victim.
A second 16-year-old boy, who also can’t be named, has pleaded guilty to burglary, dangerous driving and driving without a licence or insurance and was also sentenced on Tuesday to a Youth Referral Order for two years, an electronic tag for six months, a curfew for three months and supervision for two years. He has also been disqualified from driving for 12 months and ordered to pay his victim £450 in compensation.
CCI Bianca Ledbury from the Burglary Unit at Wiltshire Police said: "This investigation was able to progress quickly due to the combined efforts of several departments, working together to enable the swift arrest of the offenders who had burgled the victims property, stealing his car keys and his car, driving it dangerously before crashing into a nearby property causing damage.
"This could have been a very different story had it been a different time of day. Thankfully no one was hurt during this incident.
"Burglary is one of the most invasive crimes with a lasting effect upon those targeted. These offenders are prolific and have caused widespread disruption in their local area.
"The victim and property owner will still remain out of pocket despite the compensation imposed. I hope both boys will reflect on their actions, instead focusing on their future vocations."
