Corsham Police are reaching out to girls and ladies sports teams to encourage them to report offences related to violence against women and girls (VAWG).
The Corsham Neighbourhood Team are carrying out a number of community engagement and awareness sessions linked to VAWG over the coming months including visiting Corsham Ladies football team and Corsham girls and ladies hockey teams later this week (21/02).
During these sessions women are being asked to help circulate VAWG posters where there is a link to a website where there is a list of support agencies.
Det Con Kev Golledge who is visiting clubs to talk to women said: “Tackling violence against women and girls is a Force priority and it’s crucial that we engage with as many people within our communities as possible. It was a great opportunity to chat to the women within the teams, share information and hear their concerns.
"The main message I want to get across is you are not alone. If you have experienced this kind of behaviour please speak up. If you don't want to tell the police, speak to one of our support agencies.
"We want females who are part of these sport clubs to be there as a support to their friends. If someone comes to you, we want you to know where to sign post them.
"We also want club members to know that this is a safe club. They have supported us to visit and talk to you and by doing so want to support you.”
The sessions are also going to take place across Chippenham and Calne.
