The incident occurred in Thames Crescent at some point between September 28 and October 1 whilst the occupant was on holiday.
Jewellery was stolen from inside the address.
PC Dan Chaventre, from the Burglary Unit, said: “We would urge people to be mindful of their home security, especially when leaving their address unoccupied for a period of time. Opportunists will see open or unlocked windows as an invitation into your home. Please help reduce your risk of falling victim to this type of crime by ensuring all windows and doors are locked.
"The victim in this incident has been left extremely upset as a result of someone entering their home.
“We have conducted house to house enquiries and our investigation is ongoing - as part of this, we would like to hear from anyone who may have seen anything suspicious in the area between these dates, and would urge anyone with any relevant doorbell footage or CCTV to contact us immediately.”
If you can help, please call 101 and quote crime reference number 54230104182.
