A section 60 order covering Swindon and Highworth following the stabbing of a teenage boy yesterday (08/06) has been extended by 24 hours.
The order, which allows police officers to stop and search anyone in a specific area without needing reasonable grounds, was put in place at 10.56pm yesterday and will now run until 10.55pm tomorrow.
The order covers most of Swindon, as well as Highworth. The full map of where the section 60 covers can be seen in the photos below.
We have implemented the order following a disorder at Meadowcroft Fields in Upper Stratton shortly after 8pm yesterday, during which a 17-year-old boy suffered serious knife injuries.
He remains in hospital in a critical condition.
Earlier today, we arrested a 15-year-old boy on suspicion of attempted murder. He remains in custody for questioning.
We are continuing to conduct extensive enquiries in relation to the incident and there remains a heightened police presence in the area.
Anyone who witnessed or has information on the incident is urged to contact us on 101 quoting log 344 of June 8.
Alternatively, call CrimeStoppers anonymously on 0800 555111.
