Our enquiries into the burglary at the West Swindon Police Point on May 14 have now concluded.
Back in May, we confirmed that we had arrested a 27-year-old local man on suspicion of burglary and that a significant amount of the stolen property had been recovered – including all the uniform and police kit.
Following a robust investigation, it has been decided that no further action will be taken against this individual due to significant mental health concerns.
Assistant Chief Constable Deb Smith said: “Firstly, I wanted to reiterate that we are confident most of the items stolen – including all of the police kit and all items of uniform – have been recovered and this should provide some reassurance to our communities.
“We investigate each crime without fear or favour and our investigators have examined all of the evidence objectively.
“After considering all of the evidence, we’ve reached the conclusion that a criminal justice outcome is not appropriate in this case given the mental health considerations. We also did not think it was proportionate or in the public interest to pursue this case in the courts.
“We are not looking for anyone else in connection with this matter."
