At approximately 11.40am on Sunday (8/5), officers were on patrol in Church Street when they had reason to stop a Seat Leon.
The vehicle smelt strongly of cannabis. A drugs wipe was carried out at the roadside which tested positive for cannabis. A man in his 20s from Fleetwood in Lancashire was arrested on suspicion of drug driving and using a vehicle in a public place without insurance. He was also arrested for failing to attend court in Blackpool after a warrant was issued for his arrest back in August last year in relation to a separate drug driving offence.
He was taken to custody in Gablecross and released under investigation. The vehicle was seized at the scene as part of our enquiries, which are ongoing.
Sgt Will Ayres said: “Good team work by officers led to the arrest of this individual, who failed a roadside drugs test.
“Drug driving is completely unacceptable. We will continue to do everything we can to keep Wiltshire’s roads safe by targeting those who get behind the wheel of a car having taken illegal drugs.”
If you have concerns regarding drug driving, please call 101 or 999 in an emergency.
