Devizes is part of the Baton's final route through England this Summer, leading up to the Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games later this month.
The Baton travelled through the town by horse-drawn dray to The Wharf and then by boat along the Kennet and Avon Canal to The Nursery and finally on foot to the top of the Caen Hill Locks. Hundreds of people turned out to see the Baton in a carnivalesque atmosphere.
Officers from Devizes and neighbouring Community Policing Teams were positioned along the route to direct traffic and ensure public safety at key crossing points. Everything went safely and the Baton is now travelling to its next location on what is a most memorable day for Devizes.
The Baton has already travelled to Europe, Africa, Asia, Oceania, the Caribbean and now Devizes on its final stretch of the journey across the length and breadth of England before arriving at the opening ceremony of the Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games on 28 July.
