Officers were called by a member of the public at 5.40pm expressing concerns about the manner in which a Volvo XC90 was being driven. The vehicle was located unlocked in Burbage Road and an area search was carried out which led officers to the suspect driver.
A roadside breath test was carried out and a man in his 30s from Wroughton was arrested on suspicion of drink driving.
The keys to the vehicle were located in his pocket.
He remains in custody in Gablecross for questioning.
A Wiltshire Police spokesperson said: “Alcohol affects everyone differently and any amount can impair your ability to drive, putting your life and the lives of other road users at risk. The only safe option is to avoid alcohol completely if you’re driving as even ‘just one drink’ could put you over the limit.
“We are always grateful to members of our community who report concerns regarding suspected drink drivers – we are committed to keeping our roads safe and will not tolerate drink driving.”
