Officers were called to a report of a disorder in Park South shortly before 11pm.
When an officer attended and attempted to resolve the situation, a 16-year-old girl pushed him, verbally abused him and attempted to kick him in the head. She was arrested on suspicion of assault on an emergency worker and taken to custody.
During the disorder, an 18-year-old woman was also arrested on suspicion of public order and assaulting an emergency worker after she kicked an officer in the leg. Both remain in custody in Gablecross for questioning.
Sgt Nathan Perry said: “Assaults on officers of any kind are completely unacceptable. On this occasion, the officer was present to safely and calmly diffuse the situation, and instead was assaulted.
“People join the police service to prevent crime and protect the public, but assaults of this nature should never be seen as ‘part of the job’. Fortunately, the officer wasn’t injured and continued with his duties.”
