A man was arrested yesterday (20/12) on suspicion of failing to provide a roadside breath test reports of suspected drink driving.
At approximately 2.45pm, several reports were made to Avon & Somerset Constabulary and Wiltshire Police regarding the manner of driving of a man in a BMW 320 travelling eastbound on the M4 between junction 18 and 17.
Officers attended the scene and the vehicle was seen to enter Leigh Delamere services. Officers attempted to carry out a roadside breath test but this was refused.
A man in his 40s from London was arrested on suspicion of failing to provide a specimen of breath for analysis, driving whilst disqualified and theft of a vehicle.
He was taken to Gablecross custody in Swindon for further questioning. He remains in custody at this time.
PC Andy Lee, from Roads Policing, said: “We would always encourage members of the public to report any suspicious driving they witness – please provide the direction of travel and a description of the vehicle if possible.
“The festive season is well and truly upon us and we know people will be enjoying the festivities with family and friends but if you are consuming alcohol we urge you to plan your journey home either that night, or the following day. Drink driving will not be tolerated and you are not only putting yourself at risk, but you are putting the lives of others in great danger.”
