Al was born in Salisbury and has spent his entire life living and working in Wiltshire.

He joined Wiltshire Police in 2002 where he began life as a response officer on a busy Trowbridge shift, spending 5 years learning his craft before seeking promotion. Since then he has been lucky enough to work as a uniformed officer at Sergeant and Inspector levels in most areas of Wiltshire and Swindon. In 2016 he moved to a new role in the forces Training department based at HQ Devizes and was in charge of the various specialist training teams we use to develop our staff. A temporary vacancy has seen Al cover the role of Head of People Development (aka Head of Training). He also carries an ancillary role on the cadre of Tactical Firearms Commanders who support the operational deployment of armed officers to incidents across the force area.

Al is married to a fellow Wiltshire Police Officer and together they have 2 young children. His free time is usually spent looking after his family while his wife fulfils her own specialist role or working on DIY projects ranging from small scale building of electrical gadgets to full-scale demolition and decoration.

Al's business area includes the maintenance and training responsibility for:

  • Driver Training Unit
  • Public Order & Taser
  • Initial training for new officers, PCSO's, LCI, Emergency Call Handlers and more.
