BTB buying decisions Modern slavery is just one of the complex demands that modern police forces experience and we are determined to put a stop to it in our communities.

Being aware of the potential signs of modern slavery is a vital first step in our fight to end exploitation of vulnerable people in our county. When you know what to look out for there are two crucial ways you can help; using your knowledge to make ethical and informed purchase decisions as well as providing us with intelligence so that we can target those committing offences.

So, next time you're going to get a car wash or a manicure for example take a look around you. Do the people providing the service look like they are being well looked after? Do they have adequate protective equipment, clothing or tools for the job? Does someone seem to speak on their behalf or follow their every move? Do they look malnourished, dehydrated or exhausted? Are they avoiding eye contact with you or do they look withdrawn, anxious or scared? Are they allowed to handle any money or is someone else controlling this? These are just a handful of potential indicators that something may not be quite right. If you are at all concerned, walk away and report it to us. We can then make a visit to that premises to find out more.
