What is the law concerning indecent images of children?

It is illegal to have, make or distribute indecent images or videos of children. These are serious criminal offences and punishable by significant prison sentences.

The Gov.UK site sets out the legal position in relation to these offences and what the different terminology means.

Child Internet Exploitation Team

Our Child Internet Exploitation Team (CIET) conducts investigations into people using the internet to download indecent images of children and anything associated with the exploitation of children. It is not uncommon for this type of investigation to expose suspects who are also engaged in sexual activity with children in the online or real world.
