The department covers press, internal communications, public relations, marketing and visual and digital communications, and communicates both to the public and to our own officers and staff.
The department is also responsible for managing some of the communication channels we use, such as this website, the website for the PCC, the Wiltshire and Swindon Community Messaging system and our social media accounts.
As well as using our existing channels effectively, we also look to develop new ones to help us communicate better and offer new services to the public, our officers, staff and volunteers.
The department is responsible for much of the coverage that the public sees, including news stories, campaigns and appeals covering crime, events, operations, and collaborative work with partner agencies such as local authorities and other emergency services and forces
The press team handles day-to-day enquiries from local and national media outlets and issues the latest news and appeals, and the communications team campaigns on important local and national issues, often working with partners and other forces to promote latest guidance and advice and explain the role of the police in keeping us safe.
The team is also responsible for the internal communication needs of the force, keeping our staff, officers and volunteers informed about current news and issues, and looking at new ways to gather opinion and engage with the force.
The team also provides strategic and tactical advice to officers and staff, including the best use of channels, how to communicate with the public effectively, and dealing with the press.
