Keith was born and educated in North Wales.

He left school in 1976 to join the Royal Engineers, before moving to the Royal Air Force where he completed 24 years of service in 2000.

In July 2000 Keith joined Wiltshire Police in an information security role, before leaving in 2006 to join the House of Commons as Head of Protective Security. He was seconded to the National Policing Improvement Agency in 2008 as national accreditor for the Police National Database, and returned to Wiltshire Police in 2010 as Head of Standards & Protective Security.

Keith has two grown up children and three grandchildren, and in his spare time enjoys a round of golf.
