Lorry Watch is a community led scheme involving Wiltshire Police, Wiltshire Council and local volunteers. It's designed to prevent overweight lorries breaching weight limits in our towns and villages.
Standing near the roadside, local volunteers monitor traffic at the location of a weight limit and report vehicles infringing the weight limit to Wiltshire Police.
Volunteers who are police vetted and trained to use the Police National Computer will then make checks on the vehicle registration with the DVLA (Driver and Vehicle Licensing Authority) and send warning letters to those identified as infringing the weight limit.
For any repeat infringements all the information is passed directly to Wiltshire Council Trading Standards, as they have the powers to initiate a prosecution.
If you'd like to consider taking part in Lorry Watch in your area, please email Trading Standards at Wiltshire Council: [email protected]
Currently Lorry Watch is only available in Wiltshire Council areas due to the agreement with Wiltshire Council Trading Standards to investigate possible prosecutions.
