We have a strong ethos on equality, diversity and inclusion within the Force and the services we provide to the public

We are committed to creating a police service representative of the communities we serve.

We aim to have trained and motivated staff who think, deliver and promote equality and fairness to the public and each other.

Our Positive Action team works hard to:

  • Identify where under representation exists
  • Review policies, processes and perceptions to remove barriers
  • Develop initiatives promoting equality and fairness, in line with our Positive Action plan
  • Monitor and evaluate employee development opportunities

All our employees have a responsibility to support these actions.

Nepalese Positive Action event July 2019

PC Philip Johnson

Case Study - PC Philip Johnson

Trowbridge based, 20 year-old Philip began the new Police Constable Degree Apprenticeship in June 2020 after 18 months working in the Devizes Crime & Communications Centre. He applied straight from school at the age of 17, after taking A Levels and welcomed the support he got from our Positive Action team after failing SEARCH the first time. Philip is looking forward to working through the training modules and sees a police officer career as a brilliant opportunity to make a difference and particularly to help vulnerable members of our communities.
