Wiltshire Police Band not only provide musical services for the force but also promote the spirit of Wiltshire Police and the police service in general. It enables serving and retired police officers and their families, and members of the wider community, to come together as a musical ensemble.
The bands repertoire is vast and ranges from traditional marches to big band classics, popular musical shows and arrangements of classical music.
The band was formed in October 1985 by a small group of enthusiastic musicians from within the police force. It is a traditional military style band, comprising of woodwind, brass and percussion sections.
Within three years of its formation, it became apparent that the restriction on membership would prevent the band from performing the full repertoire of military music. Therefore, in May 1998, approval was given for civilian musicians to become members.
The Wiltshire Police Band is heavily involved in supporting local charities and worthwhile causes by raising money at many local and national events. The band also performs with many community choirs and musical groups at various charitable events.
The band have rehearsals at Police Headquarters (London Road, Devizes) every Tuesday evening from 7.45pm to 9.45pm. We welcome new members of grade six standard or above and there is obviously no commitment to join the police force.
