Please note changes in the process of Police registrations (effective from April 2015):
If you need to register, this requirement will be shown on your visa in your passport, Biometric Residence Permit (BRP) or Home Office letter.
Foreign Nationals (countries listed below), who are required to register with police, will be issued with a new 30 day short term entry vignette visa. This visa will state whether you are required to register with the police. This visa allows entry into the UK. If you are issued with this new 30 day visa, you will also receive a letter from the Home Office, confirming that your visa application for the UK has been successful and will show the start and expiry date of your visa, which you will need to collect from a designated Post Office nearest to your accommodation address in the UK.
If the above applies to you, you have two options when registering with the police:
- (A)BEFORE collecting your Biometric Residence Permit (BRP) from the Post Office. Attend one of our stations, with all the documents mentioned in the ‘Noter’ section of this site and the original of the accompanying letter issued to you in your home country. Following police registration and collecting your BRP from the Post Office, you do not need to return to the station to report this visa card.
Any new (in country) visas must be reported within the usual reporting time of 7 days.
A.(B)AFTER collecting your Biometric Residence Permit (BRP) from the Post Office
Attend one of our stations with all the documents mentioned in the ‘Note’ section of this site and your BRP visa card.
Requirement to register
As a condition of entry into the United Kingdom, or as a condition to remain, certain foreign nationals are required to register with the police in whose area they are to reside within seven days of arrival.
Only Foreign Nationals who are 16 years of age and over are required to register. If under 16 years old and the VISA shows a requirement to register, they should only register when they reach the age of 16.
Such a requirement is endorsed in the Foreign Nationals Passport or on the rear of the Biometric Card issued by the UK Border Agency or the Home Office Immigration and Nationality Directorate (HOIND).
In the absence of a passport, the requirement to register with the police will be endorsed in correspondence or documentation supplied to the Foreign National by either the UK Border Agency or HOIND.
A Foreign National who is registered with the police is issued with a Police Registration Certificate (PRC). In addition, the subject's passport is endorsed with the PRC number and date stamped.
