Hello, and welcome to The Diversity & Community Affairs Team page! We are a small and active team who work to:

  • Help the Force to be consistent in the way it promotes equality and diversity when providing a service to the public; and
  • Promote initiatives aimed at improving public safety

Overall, we are a Team who promote Crime Prevention and Community Safety initiatives, and good Equality and Diversity practices. We also work with 'SPLASH' and 'Bobby Van' initiatives which are active in crime prevention and community safety.

Why do we exist? Well consider this:

  • The overall population of Wiltshire & Swindon according to the 2001 Census is 613,024
  • Of the total population, 51% are female, and 49% are male
  • The total number of under 18's is 23%, those between 18 years -59 years is 56%, and those over 60 years is 21%
  • The overall ethnic minority population is 5%, of which visible ethnic minorities form 2.5%
  • On the basis of the government estimate of 5-7% of the population, the overall gay and bisexual population in Swindon & Wiltshire, over the age of 18 years would be 23,600 people (taking the lower figure of 5%)
  • 25% of the population are from diverse religious backgrounds, including Buddhist, Hindu, Jewish, Muslim, Sikh, Pagan, Roman Catholic, Protestant, Evangelical and others

We serve increasingly diverse communities in our area, and we want to encourage and support the Force, its various departments and its divisions, to make sure that we provide fair and responsive services to the public, and promote community safety for everyone!
