As I am sure you know, my colleagues and I are committed to delivering safe, satisfied and confident communities in Wiltshire.
To achieve our goals we need a strong, vibrant and motivated Special Constabulary, and I am delighted with the progress we have made so far in recruiting new members; but we need to do much more. Indeed, I have set the target of recruiting 60 Special Constables by the end of this financial year (2013/ 2014). So, can you help?
Being a Special Constable is a wonderfully positive way of contributing to your community. You will receive first class training and exposure to unique experiences that can only help enhance your personal and professional development.
Please study these pages carefully and if you are interested in joining our remarkably talented, committed and motivated Special Constabulary then contact the recruitment team on 101 Ext 7202314.
Good luck and I look forward to working with you if you care about your community.
A message from the Special Constabulary Chief Officer
Thank you for your interest.
So who are we looking for? We are looking for keen, sensible and dedicated people. Our Special Constables must be honest, reliable and, like all employees of Wiltshire Police, have integrity beyond reproach. Remember, a Special Constable, whilst on duty, has full Police Officer powers.
The recruitment process is rigorous and, perhaps not surprisingly, not everyone is cut out for the role. From the moment you post your application form you will be tested against the competencies for a Police Officer and as a result, the recruitment process is lengthy. If accepted, you will receive everything you need in terms of training, equipment and support. Reassuringly, you will only be allowed to patrol on your own when you and the force are sure you are ready to do so. In time you may be able to specialise, for example with our Roads Policing Unit and seek promotion within the Special Constabulary.
Being a Special Constable is rewarding, challenging and fun. Although unpaid there are massive benefits for you, your family and employers. Some of our Special Constables have been with us for many years, whilst others are gaining experience before looking to become regular officers. Our Special Constables hail from all walks of life - we have students, restaurant managers, stay at home mums, management accountants, musicians and Wiltshire Police employees. We even have a shepherd! We all balance our commitment to the Force with those to our families and employers and we all gain valuable life experiences and skills from what we do.
So long as you are motivated to become a Special Constable and you are eligible to apply, why not try and join us.
