Traffic Cordons & Road Closures PDF Print E-mail

A cordon is established so that only essential vehicles have access to the scene. All other traffic will be diverted by the police to prevent congestion and allow responding vehicles a safe and timely passage to the scene. A traffic cordon may extend 15-20 miles away from the incident depending on the local road network.

Following the initial road closure, the Highways Department will assist with signage or blocking the road further.
